Hi again! Yet another CK story here! I guess I should slow down with posting these, but I just could not resist! :-) This happened last Monday, when I had already played for several hours, and was having quite a good day, with many kills/assists and several succesfull CAPpings of F15 against repeated Green attacks to take the only Red field at that time. The sun of my CK world was getting low on the horizon, and I had just been shot down near F22 by a purple P39. (Yes, that is right, a P39! I did my usual mistake of underestimating what those "lesser" planes can do in the hands of a good pilot, and ended up flying my P51 without the rear fuselage..:-) Anyways, as I was flying towards the F22 again, I was met with the most surprising sight! There were no less than 5 purple BF109Gs, a P51D, an FW, and a P38 flying low towards F15 from F22! There were a few Reds around, but none was in sight at the moment. I had to compliment the purples (and at the same time let them know it was me above, in case they had some sort of BoB arrangement going, after all NOBODY on their right mind would fly BF109s against Red P38s, right?:-) I radio something like "pate: WTG purps, flying the BF109s! Nice to see some variety!", which was greeted by "pdoc: cc pate... obliged!" (or something...) So, looks like it is OK for me to attack them! I felt like this was my birthday or something, purps organizing eight low targets for my lonely high P51D! Happy happy joy joy! :-) Oh, but now I am faced with the difficulty of choosing.. Well, the purple P51D was for some reason flying away from the rest of the group (strange, I though.. If I were low in P51, I would certainly stay around some friendly stallfighters!). An obvious target... So I dive after it, trimming my plane to 400 knots level speed while diving. I soon catch up with it, plant myself at his six, about 300 yeards behind, and give it a couple of half-second burst from my MGs.. See a ping, correct my aiming, and give a good second of MG fire.. And down he goes, without his elevators.. :-) Now is the time to check six, I think, and look back.. And what a sight that is! Three BF109s and a P38 following me, all at less than 1000 yards! Hmm, if this isn't the definition of "trouble", I don't know what is! Well, I could outrun the 109s so that I would only have that P38 to deal with (the smart thing to do), or I could stay and fight (the stupid option). Well, the sun was setting in my CK world, and it was getting rather late in the real world, so i decide to go out with a bang, so to speak.. :-) My speed is a bit over 300 knots, so I pull back hard, turning left a bit at the same time. When I reach 60 degree climb, I kick left rudder until I am going almost straight down, lower all flaps, and bank left hard. At this point I receive a few pings, and get a hole into my fuel tank. And what I see next makes me laugh so hard I almost auger! All those following me fly past my guns, the P38 leading the pack! Too bad I cannot aim correctly and laugh at the same time.. :-) The three 109s begin to turn left, trying to follow my turn, with the result that I am actually now tailing them! Oh how I wish I could have saved a screen copy of this, it looked so funny! Here I am, low and slow P51, tailing 3 enemy BF109s and a P38! For some reason (probably because I am on full flaps) I gain angles from the 109s slowly but surely, and one of them is soon 300 yards away and in just the right spot for a bit of deflection shooting.. A burst from my MGs, hitting his tail section, and he crashes! Hehe.. And then the next BF109 is at the same position, I hit his tail section. Too bad I cannot now remember if he crashed or not after that.. At this point the P38 overshoots me (or something), as he is suddenly in front of me, turning right.. I get greedy, thinking that it would really be the perfect ending for this day if I could kill it, too! I get a ping or two into it, but cannot follow it's turn any farther. From the corner of my eye I see a Purple Zeke doing a Boom-n-Zoom manouevre towards me, but luckily he misses (hehe, I thought this was pretty cool, too! A TnB plane doing BnZ against a low BnZ plane doing TnB.. :-) At this point I am almost out of fuel, and I see more Reds joining the fun, so I think it might be a good idea to land and ditch now when my engine is still running. Gear down, and a slow descent.. But, as luck will have it, the fuel runs out when I am too low to change my angle of descent or raise flaps, and too high to land gracefully.. So I crash. Damn. Well, nothing more to do besides thanking the Purps for a great fight, and log off. So, again, thanks Purps for flying the BF109s! You made real good targets! :-) Patrick "pate" Aalto ap@jyu.fi http://www.jyu.fi/~ap/
